Everyone enjoys a festive 4th of July party tablescape! This post provides inspiration for setting up an Independence Day table. Get ready for the holiday by ordering decorations and party supplies a few weeks in advance. And you’ll definitely want to make these beautifully-swirled 4th of July cookies!

On the 4th of July my husband and I love hosting big backyard BBQs. When our daughters were growing up the parties were quite large as we welcomed both girls’ friends to come on by for food, drinks and fun. Where I live in California fireworks booths go up a week prior to the 4th of July holiday. I head over  to the nearest fireworks booth early in the week to ensure I have the best selection of fireworks packages and individual items to include all-important sparklers. When I’ve had a chance to shop and plan in advance I enjoy setting up festive 4th of July tablescapes for our  dessert and food tables. It adds that special sparkle and ambiance that makes a 4th of July party festive and exciting!

Now that my daughters are grown we often join my sister Rachelle and her family of five for 4th of July celebrations. Rachelle is an excellent hostess and a wonderful cook. Her husband mans the grill with a cold beverage in his hand and we all enjoy hanging out with family and friends. When my sister and I throw parties we always make sure there is plenty of food on hand. It’s a rare occasion that we run out of something. My husband says I cook for an army. But everyone appreciates that there’s always enough for seconds – including our 4th of July parties. At the end of the evening I pack up the leftover food and portion things out in Ziplock baggies that I gift to guests as they depart.

On my 4th of July dessert tablescapes there are a wide variety of tasty goodies. Initially I’ll set out only two or three items and hold back on the rest until after dinner is served. On the 4th of July the day is usually hot and some items require refrigeration or need protection from the heat. Usual dessert items include a chocolate cake, apple pie, peach pie and either a fresh strawberry pie or fruit basket cake. Strawberries, blueberries and whipped cream make white cakes festive for Independence Day! Mini cupcakes are also a great choice. My husband will usually set-up our industrial popcorn machine outside to make the occasion even more fun.

If the crowd is large enough, I pre-order two to three large drums of ice cream from an ice cream parlor in our neighborhood. We usually choose mint chocolate chip ice cream, orange sherbert and vanilla or raspberry swirl. We serve our ice cream in cute little cups with spoons or on sugar cones. No guest of ours leaves hungry or has a sugar craving that goes unsatisfied!
