Delicious caramel apple dip and autumn go hand in hand. Here in California the weather is still warm, and I’m still dressed in shorts and flip flops. But in the afternoons we’re starting to get a few light breezes and hints of cooler weather to come. It’s always in mid-September that I start getting excited about making traditional fall foods like yummy caramel apple dip. It’s a wonderful appetizer to take to a friend’s party to share, to a potluck at work, or to enjoy with your family at home. This caramel apple dip just might become your seasonal go-to recipe!
Because I like to mix things up, I’m going to show you how to make a scrumptious caramel apple dip three different ways. You’ll have the option of serving a beautiful classic caramel apple dip. Or by using a few mix-ins you can make it look festive while also giving it extra boosts of delightful texture and flavor.
And because I love quick easy recipes, we’re not going to be unwrapping tiny caramel candies and melting them over the stovetop with butter. I just don’t have time for that. And I’m guessing you don’t have time for that either. When making delicious fall treats I like to work smarter, not harder. But like you, I still want a beautiful result.
These are all the ingredients you’ll need to make an absolutely fabulous caramel apple dip: one 17-ounce jar of butterscotch caramel (in the market where I shop it’s found with the ice cream toppings), an 8-ounce block of cream cheese, one-half cup of light-brown sugar, 1/4 teaspoon sea salt, Nestle Butterscotch Morsels, and Nestle Toll House Semi-Sweet Chocolate Mini Morsels. The first four items are to make a basic caramel apple dip. The last two items are mix-ins that will make your caramel apple dip festive and special!
Start by mixing together the softened cream cheese, salt, and light-brown sugar.
Reserve 4 tablespoons of the butterscotch caramel for later. With a spatula, add the remainder of the caramel to the mixing bowl. Blend until the mixture is smooth and without lumps.
Your caramel apple dip might have some tiny air bubbles throughout the mixture. That’s completely normal.

This appetizer is super popular, and I like to start refilling the dip bowl once it gets half way down. If there’s one thing to know about me, it’s that when hosting a party I don’t like to run out of food and snacks. I want my guests to feel welcome eating as much as they want because they know I have more of everything.
The second way to serve this heavenly caramel apple dip is with mini chocolate morsels mixed into the dip and then more of them sprinkled right on top. Doesn’t this caramel apple dip look delicious? It tastes just as good as it looks!
The two types of apples I used here are Granny Smith and sweet red Fuji apples. This caramel apple dip goes perfectly with any variety of apples, but it’s always nice to include some that vary in color. It makes this appetizer look strikingly beautiful. What are your favorite types of apples?
The third way to serve this homemade caramel apple dip is to mix in butterscotch morsels in addition to the mini chocolate morsels. When making the dip mixture I reserve about 4 tablespoons of the butterscotch caramel. Once the caramel apple dip is in the serving bowl, I then spoon the reserved caramel on top. After that, I generously sprinkle butterscotch morsels and mini chocolate morsels on top of the butterscotch layer.
When stored in a tightly-sealed container, caramel apple dip will stay fresh in the refrigerator for up to 10 days.

- 1 8-ounce block of cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
- 1/2 cup light-brown sugar, lightly packed
- 1 jar butterscotch caramel (ice cream topping)
- 1/3 bag (10-ounce bag) mini chocolate morsels
- 1/3 bag (11-ounce bag) butterscotch morsels
- In a stand mixer, mix together the softened cream cheese, salt, and light brown sugar until well blended.
- Reserve 4 tablespoons of the butterscotch caramel for later.
- Add the remainder of the caramel to the mixing bowl. Mix on medium-high until the mixture is completely smooth. There may be air bubbles, but that’s okay. To serve a classic caramel apple dip, transfer the mixture to a small serving bowl. Enjoy!
- For a more festive apple caramel dip, fold the mini chocolate morsels into the mixture using a spatula. If you’d like to add some butterscotch morsels too, fold them in as well. Transfer the apple caramel dip to a small serving bowl. Sprinkle with mini chocolate morsels.
- For an ultimate apple caramel dip, pour the reserved 4 tablespoons of caramel on top of the apple caramel dip. Sprinkle the top with additional chocolate mini morsels and butterscotch morsels.
