Fun Baby Shower Games: The Dirty Diaper Game

Planning a baby shower is fun, but to make it memorable you’ll need to select the type of baby shower games that will be the best fit for your round-up of lovely guests. A Dirty Diaper Game is a perfect ice-breaker, and will bring baby shower guests together and increase social interaction. This post covers three types of Dirty Diaper Games. They’re completely different but have the same theme. Some require similar supplies. On another page we have even more baby shower games that you’ll really like!

Money-Saving Tips: 1. Select two different dirty diaper games on this page to save money. Some of the same game supplies can be used for two of these dirty diaper games. 2. The felt diaper kit below will help reduce shopping time AND save you money on dirty diaper game supplies.

Things you’ll need for the Dirty Diaper Game:

  • One jar of baby food that looks and smells unpleasant
  • Stack of clean diapers (Pampers, cloth or felt diapers) – one diaper per baby shower guest
  • Lovely basket to display the stack of diapers
  • Two baby shower prizes for the winners!

Preparations for the Dirty Diaper Baby Shower Game: If you’re using the diaper game kit above, no preparations are needed for this dirty diaper game! If you’re using regular diapers, spread some baby food inside the middle of TWO diapers. Make it look really unpleasant. Close up the diapers really well so it looks like there’s nothing inside them. Stack up the clean diapers inside the basket. Place the dirty “surprise” diapers randomly within the stack, making them look like the other clean diapers.

Note: The baby shower diaper kit above comes with 18 “clean” diapers and 2 surprise “poopie” diapers.

How to play the Dirty Diaper Game: Don’t let guests know the object of this dirty diaper game. You’ll want to keep them in suspense. Have a baby shower hostess or the mother-to-be circulate among the guests with the basket of diapers. Ask each guest to take one diaper and keep it closed. After all baby shower guests have a diaper, ask everyone to open up their diapers at the same time. The two winners of this Dirty Diaper Game are the two baby shower guests holding the dirty diapers!

Fun Baby Shower Games | Dirty Diaper Game #2

Things you’ll need for this Dirty Diaper Game:

  • One pouch of baby food, either peas, spinach or carrots
  • One baby diaper
  • Children’s music
  • Baby shower prize for the winner!

Money-Saving Tip: When you purchase one of the children’s CDs below (both of these are beloved classics), it can perform double duty. Use it for this dirty diaper game AND as a fantastic baby shower gift! And what’s even more awesome is you can save time and gas by ordering this memorable gift online.

How to play “Pass the Dirty Diaper” baby shower game: Have baby shower guests sit in a circle. Hand one guest a “dirty” baby diaper that’s filled with warm baby food. Either a baby shower hostess or the mother-to-be is in charge of turning on the music as guests pass the diaper around the circle. When the music is suddenly turned off, the person holding the dirty diaper is out of the game. Continue until there are just two people left – one with the dirty diaper and one without. The winner of this Dirty Diaper Game is the baby shower guest who is empty handed at the end of the game.

Things you’ll need for Name that Candy Bar – Dirty Diaper Game:

  • 12 baby diapers, or use the baby shower Dirty Diaper Game kit above.
  • Black Sharpie marker
  • 12 candy bars. Some suggestions: Kit Kat, Nestle’s Crunch, Snickers, Milky Way, Almond Joy, Mounds, Butterfinger, Ghirardelli, Hershey’s, Mr. Goodbar, Junior Mints, Toblerone, Baby Ruth, 100 Grand, PayDay, York Peppermint Pattie, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, etc.

  • One sheet of paper per guest pre-numbered 1-12, plus an extra sheet of paper for your use.

Preparations for the Dirty Diaper Game: Using the black Sharpie marker, number the outside of each diaper (1, 2, 3…). Pair up each diaper with a candy bar. On a piece of paper, record the name of the candy that is paired up with each numbered diaper. Just before the game begins, using a microwave slightly heat one candy bar inside the middle of each baby diaper. But don’t over melt the candy! The candy should only be partially melted. With a spoon, spread the candy around just a little bit inside the middle of the diaper so it looks somewhat realistic! Don’t close the diapers completely as the candy may stick to the sides of the diapers and keep them closed. Pre-number the sheets of paper 1-12. These will be your Dirty Diaper Game sheets.

NOTE: If you purchase the Dirty Diaper Game kit above, it comes with 12 game diapers and 36 stickers for three different Dirty Diaper Games.

How to play the Dirty Diaper Game: Have guests sit in a half circle. Give each baby shower guest a Dirty Diaper Game sheet along with a pen or pencil. Display the easel or poster board where everyone can see it. Explain to the baby shower guests that the list of candy bars displayed are possibilities for what is inside the diapers. Baby shower guests are allowed to look and smell, but not touch or taste, the contents of each diaper. Guesses are to be recorded on the sheet of paper. Numbers on the sheets of paper correspond to the numbers written on the outside of the diapers. At each of the two ends of the half circle, start circulating the diapers. The winner of this dirty diaper game is the baby shower with the most correct guesses!

    • Hello Shonda. The Dirty Diaper Game lives on, entertaining generations of mommys-to-be and their baby shower guests. Thanks so much for popping by for a visit! :-)

  1. I love the dirty diaper games. We played the one with the candy bars at my cousin’s shower a few years ago… to say that it was hilarious watching my mom and my grandma smell and taste, yes taste, the chocolate from the diaper… would be a complete understatement. It was awesome! Love the baby food idea too. I think I’ll save that one for the next baby shower I plan :)
