Goal Setting Tips | How to Get Started
Goal setting begins by creating a concrete vision of what you wish to accomplish. It’s also prioritizing your goals and focusing on the ones that your future self will be glad you began working on today. Is your main goal getting your home or garage organized from top to bottom and cutting out the clutter? Is it losing weight by making some serious lifestyle changes? Is it researching a new business opportunity that will allow you to leave your current job and work from home? Is it creating a budget to cut back on expenses to save for your children’s education, a new home, or a nest egg for retirement? What is your primary personal goal?
Goal Setting Tips | Laying the Framework
Once you have a firm goal in mind, the second step is laying out a road map with clear directions on how you plan to get there. During this process it’s important to remain true to yourself and to your own dreams. Think about what it is that motivates you. Other well-meaning people may want to influence or even change your life’s path, but stay firm in the knowledge that you have your own road to travel. It must be a destination that’s completely authentic to your deepest dreams and desires.
- Begin by setting one or more clearly-outlined, large-scale goals
- Define exactly what motivates you
- Be firm in your vision
- Set a number of shorter-term goals on the way to reaching those larger goals
- Pull out your camera. Use the power of images to help you visualize your goals and dreams
- Create a vision board.
- Each day do something concrete that will take you closer to achieving your targeted goals
- Every morning and every night focus on your goals and reaffirm that your dreams are becoming reality
- Measure your progress along the way and make any changes in your course, as needed
- Remember that obstacles are what you see when you take your mind off the goal
Goal Setting Tips | The Power of Intention
Don’t underestimate the power of intention. Some people refer to it as tapping into the power of the universe. Use this technique to solidify goals in your mind’s eye. The power of intention is a vital element used by very successful people. Just keep in mind that the picture of success looks very different to everyone based on a whole number of outside factors. Your vision of success will look different than mine. But your goals and dreams are what matter most. Those are what you need to hone in on. As you move forward to achieve your dreams keep reaffirming the outcome. Maintain a clear focus on the end goal. Maintain a core belief that you can indeed achieve what you’re setting out to accomplish. Give a big boost of positive reinforcement to your plans by envisioning yourself enjoying the life you’ve always wanted. Gradually you will tap into the flow and this process will become second nature to you.

Goal Setting Tips | My Personal Goals
Just like you, in each phase of my life I’ve had different goals. And as I achieve one goal it’s replaced by another. My current primary goal is helping my husband save for retirement. My second-tier goal is purchasing a 50-foot Beneteau sail boat so when retirement comes we can spend our afternoons sailing on Banderas Bay. These two personal goals are what I’m zeroing in on right now. Are my newest goals possible to achieve? Absolutely. Through blogging and my websites I’m making good headway. Every morning I begin the day by visualizing life as it will be when I achieve my goals. I end each day in the same way. And in between waking up and going to bed I work alongside images of the Beneteau sailboat and our home in Puerto Vallarta. When I achieve my current goals it won’t be because of plain old good luck. It will be because I created a firm timeline and strategy. It will be because I followed this up with a series of focused steps keeping laser-like clarity on the end goal. It will be because I worked smarter, not harder.
Goal Setting Tips | A Picture of Success >> What It Looks Like
I have two daughters and both are fabulous at making their dreams come true through goal setting and visualization. The older sister Ashley has really tapped into the flow and become a master at making things happen. She’s age 24 and began goal setting in kindergarten. I remember our first goal-setting conversation. I lifted her up onto the bathroom countertop to curl her hair and engage her in one of our girls-can-to-anything discussions. At age 20 she graduated from Cal Poly SLO with an engineering degree. During the week she works as an engineer for a semiconductor company. On the weekends she works doing promotional modeling. For example, when the Selena Gomez Concert recently came to Sacramento she was hired to work and model at the Pantene hair booth. She has a bartending certificate and just recently became a notary public and a realtor to further her weekend job line-up. She purchased a condo a year ago that she has as a rental, and last August purchased a 4-bedroom home around the block from her dad and I. This past month she was accepted into three different law schools, receiving a full-tuition scholarship at one campus and a half-tuition scholarship plus books at another campus. She will continue working during the day and weekends and attend law school in the evening. Ashley continues to be a great example of how amazingly powerful goal setting can be. She sets her goals, creates a roadmap to her destination, and then step by step follows through. By using the goal setting tips I’ve shared in this post you too can accomplish your goals. Don’t procrastinate! Start making things happen. Give yourself permission to go out and claim your dreams!
