Rachel has expectations of visiting a modest family in simple dwelling and enjoying a relaxing vacation with her boyfriend. Instead, she abruptly discovers that he super rich, coming from old money and an elite jet-set crowd. Nick failed to tell Rachel he was raised in a palatial home surrounded by nosy relatives, traveled by private plane more than by car, and just happens to be the country’s most eligible bachelor! Rachel quickly learns she needs to watch her back as she navigates a labyrinth of old money, new money, and a whole bevvy of scheming social climbers. The low-key vacation she expected turns out to be much more than she anticipated. This book is a wickedly humorous look at the over-the-top world of Asian high society.
The Best Books to Read by the Pool This Spring | The Rocks
An irresistible novel by Peter Nichols.
This romantic page-turner is set in the sunny Mediterranean against a dramatic backdrop of old olive trees, lush music, and free-flowing wine. Back in 1948, in a beautiful seaside community, a ruinous event occurred between two honeymooners that drove them apart. Despite residing on the same island for more than 60 years they never spoke a single word to one another ever again. What was their terrible secret? This intense pool-side read is driven forward by this dark mysterious incident. Decade by decade their story moves back in time, unraveling what happened years before. The clouded history revolving around this deeply-shrouded event has shaped the Romeo/Juliet romance of their unrelated children. It doesn’t help that their glamorous, sophisticated resort community is filled with complicated misbehaving residents. This bittersweet novel displays the power of perceived truth and the heartbreaking ripple effect put into motion from one misunderstanding. This intelligent book is one of those intense suspenseful page-turners you’ll want to finish in one reading.
