With these Halloween Monster Mash Brownies, I’m embracing the fall season with arms wide open! Here in California the weather’s a bit cooler today, thank goodness. Just looking at these Monster Mash Brownies, I have a special Halloween song stuck in my head: He did the mash. He did the monster mash. The monster mash. It was a graveyard smash… Hahahha! Now you’ll probably be singing this song too. It’s so darn contagious, just like the craving for these chocolatey Halloween Monster Mash Brownies!
The fabulous brownie batter is a simple traditional recipe for Hershey’s brownies. And I promise you, these delicious Halloween Monster Mash Brownies are quick and easy to make. It takes only 10 minutes to prep the pan and mix the batter, and another 20 minutes to bake in the oven. Decorating these Halloween Monster Mash Brownies is an absolute breeze, 5 minutes at most. So let’s get baking!
Here’s what you’ll need to make Halloween Monster Mash Brownies from scratch: Melted butter, granulated sugar, 2 large eggs, vanilla extract, salt, baking powder, baking cocoa, and all-purpose flour.
Start by generously greasing a square 8 X 8-inch baking pan. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. In a small pan melt the butter. Add the melted butter to a medium-sized mixing bowl along with the sugar and vanilla. Stir until these ingredients are fully combined.
Add the two eggs to the mixing bowl and stir well.
Add the cocoa, baking powder, salt, and flour. Mix until all ingredients have been combined.
You want the brownie batter as smooth as can be with just a few small lumps.
Transfer the brownie batter to the prepared baking pan. At this point you can already see how scrumptious these Monster Mash Brownies will be. And if you’ve followed my other recipes, you know the drill – go ahead and lick the spatula before washing it in the sink. Mmmm….so much chocolatey goodness! Bake your Halloween Monster Mash Brownies for 20 minutes. Don’t worry about inserting a toothpick and having it come out clean. We don’t want it to be clean. We want yummy, moist brownies.
As soon as the Halloween Monster Mash Brownies come out of the oven, start decorating them with your favorite Halloween candies. Gently press each candy into the warm brownies. When you decorate Halloween Monster Mash Brownies, throw perfection out the door. It’s much better when the candies are just scattered about and crazy looking. The more festive the better!
These are the colorful candies I used for my Halloween Monster Mash Brownies: Candy corn, pieces of a regular-sized Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Bar, Reese’s Miniature Peanut Butter Cups, M&Ms, chocolate sprinkles, and Wilton candy eyeballs in two sizes. The inspiration for this recipe came from Kat and Melinda of Homemade Interest. A link to their fun Witch’s Brew Brownies is included inside the recipe card of this post. When these Halloween Monster Mash Brownies are included on your dessert table, they’ll be the star of the show!
I can never make just one batch of these adorable Halloween Monster Mash Brownies. I always double the recipe and make two! The first baking pan of these seasonal treats was gifted to my daughter Brooke’s fiancee Darin. He loves yummy desserts, especially anything that has Reese’s peanut butter cups. The second pan of Halloween Monster Mash Brownies belongs to my husband and my daughter Ashley. They’re both lovers of rich chocolatey desserts like these. Halloween Monster Mash Brownies are perfect for a Halloween party, October birthday party, potlucks, school events, bake sales, family get togethers, and movie nights.

Over the Labor Day weekend I bought my black-and-white batter bowl at Crate and Barrel. But you can find some lovely ceramic batter bowls through Amazon. My square USA baking pans came from Williams Sonoma, but you can find the exact same ones online. I love that they’re heavy-duty and have a non-stick, quick-release coating.
