Breakfast Toast is a breakfast sandwich recipe made with ricotta, blueberry preserves, and honey.

Healthy Breakfast Sandwich Ingredients

These are the ingredients you’ll need for this healthy breakfast sandwich: well-seeded organic bread or artisan bread, Ricotta cheese, sea salt flakes, preserves – wild blueberry or your favorite flavor, Macadamia nuts, and organic honey.

Healthy Breakfast Sandwich Ingredients

Breakfast Toast

A healthy breakfast sandwich begins with freshly-baked, good-quality bread. I love experimenting with different types of bread to include Muesli, honey whole wheat, French batard, Pugliese, and other offerings found at a local bread bakery. For today’s breakfast toast I chose a well-seeded bread that looks and tastes amazing.

How to Build a Healthy Breakfast Sandwich

Begin by toasting your bread according to your pleasure. My husband loves his breakfast toast deeply browned to perfection. I love mine just slightly toasted but with a firm feel. Toasting your bread will give your breakfast sandwich a nice firm foundation. It should be able to support all the delicious sweet-and-savory ingredients you’re about to layer on!

Building the best breakfast sandwich!

Spread an even layer of Ricotta cheese over your toast. Sprinkle a pinch or two of flaky sea salt on top.

Best Breakfast Sandwich

Here’s where you can get creative by using your favorite preserves, jelly, or jam. Just spread an even layer of it over the lightly-salted Ricotta cheese. My choice of preserves is wild blueberry. It’s a product of France sold at my local market, and it’s so darn yummy!

Description

Enjoy this delicious open-faced breakfast sandwich any day of the week. It’s sweet savory flavors will have you dreaming mid-day about having  another slice of this delicious breakfast toast!

Ingredients

  • Seeded bread or artisan bread
  • Ricotta cheese
  • Flaky sea salt
  • Wild blueberry preserves
  • Macadamia nuts, roughly chopped
  • Organic honey

Instructions

  1. Toast your slice of bread as desired. As the toast is the foundation for layers of delicious toppings, it should have a firm toasted texture so it can support the other ingredients.
  2. Spread a thin layer of Ricotta cheese on the breakfast toast. Sprinkle a pinch or two of flaky sea salt over the cheese. Spread a light layer of wild blueberry preserves on top. Add a few roughly-chopped Macadamia nuts over the preserves. In a zig-zag fashion, add long drizzles of honey over your open-faced breakfast sandwich.
  3. Plate your beautiful creation. Enjoy!

I do love Muesli bread too. It is very healthy. I have difficulty though to introduce the healthy bread for my boys. they want white soft bread instead!

That looks good. I would sub roasted pecans (my new obsession) for the macadamia nuts but I will have to give this a try!

The layered toast with ricotta cheese, sea salt flakes, preserves and nuts look delicious! As a kid, I had a friend that had toast with cream cheese and jam. I thought she was nuts. Nope...I was the one that was nuts. That combination is divine.
