Description
Made with just 2 humble ingredients – water and sugar, simple syrup is a bartender’s best friend. Sweeten cocktails, mocktails, lemonade, iced tea, and more.
Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup granulated sugar
Instructions
- Add water and sugar to a saucepan and stir to combine. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring frequently. Once boiling, continue to cook for 1-2 minutes to make sure all of the sugar has been dissolved.
- Immediately remove the saucepan from heat. Allow the simple syrup to cool completely.
- Transfer the cooled syrup to a sterilized airtight container – like a glass jar. If desired, use a kitchen funnel to transfer the mixture. Store the simple syrup in the fridge for up to 3 weeks.

Notes
Simple 1:1 ratio: The standard ratio for simple syrup is 1:1 – equal parts sugar and water by weight or volume. This creates a classic syrup ideal for cocktails, mocktails, iced tea and lemonade. (For a richer, thicker syrup, use a 2:1 ratio of sugar to water.)
Don’t boil it for too long: If simple syrup is boiled for too long it will caramelize.
Make ahead : This simple syrup can be made in advance and stored in the fridge in a sterilized airtight container.
