ABOUT DENAY, HOME CHEF AND FOOD PHOTOGRAPHER
I’m a California girl, living in Sacramento, but you’ll often find me celebrating life and food at my second home near Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. These two vibrant foodie destinations inspire my festive colorful recipe creation!
As an at-home chef, I’m self-educated. My culinary knowledge comes from years of cooking for my family, and taking cooking classes in the USA and Mexico to further my skills. I now perform recipe development for various food brands.
My journey into food photography began at a workshop in Minneapolis. I enjoy the ongoing challenge of mastering light to bring out rich colors, flavors, and textures. I want viewers to salivate and reach for their forks!
I’m blessed with a loving family: a husband, two daughters, two son-in-laws, and Diesel Dog. My husband is retiring early to join the Confetti and Bliss team! As an engineer he’ll bring his own special set of skills to the table.
HOW I GOT STARTED
Our family loves hosting large parties! At events I’m often asked to share my recipes. After hand writing ingredients on scraps of paper, and sending emails with detailed instructions, this food blog was a natural progression. Now I can easily share all of my favorite recipes in a neat and organized way!
ABOUT MY DELICIOUS EASY RECIPES
I share memorable dishes that come together quickly, including easy appetizers for parties! Some recipes like, Grandma Mercie’s flour tortillas, are family gems passed down through generations.
Good food shouldn’t take hours to make! However, there are exceptions like yeast recipes, and flavorful dishes like Spaghetti Sauce from Scratch.
BEHIND THE SCENES: RECIPE CREATION + FOOD PHOTOGRAPHY
Looking at my food-styled images you might believe everything comes together effortlessly. You might imagine me baking in my kitchen with perfectly-styled hair and a fresh manicure. Seriously – that’s just not real life!
Behind the scenes, my hair’s tossed up in a clip like unruly feathers to keep it from falling in my face as I cook, food style, and photograph. My ingredient-stained notebook and pen are next to me as I work.
Often with food on my hands, I’m jotting down ideas, ingredients and cooking times. My whirlwind of activity usually results in a big mess everywhere!
WHERE I FOOD BLOG: CALIFORNIA + MEXICO
I food blog from my home in Sacramento, California. It’s the location where I do the bulk of my brand work and recipe creation. The second location is my newly remodeled kitchen in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico (images below).
Gutting the space, we transformed it into an area for creating recipes and performing food photography. I love making cookies with an ocean view.
Puerto Vallarta is one of Mexico’s top culinary destinations! My recipes often capture the colors, flavors, and overall happy feeling of this celebratory location. When in Mexico, my outdoor office comes with a view!
2019/2020: Barefoot, we’ll head downstairs, set up a tent on the beach to diffuse bright light, and photograph Beach Cocktail recipes.
