Description

This fluffy whipped butter is a rich luxurious spread. With a smooth consistency and airy texture it spreads effortlessly over bread, pancakes, muffins, scones, steak, veggies, corn on the cob, baked potatoes, and more.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • 1 pinch kosher salt, or to taste

Instructions

Recipe Prep: Make sure the butter is softened to room temperature. It’s essential for the butter to be soft to achieve a light and fluffy texture.

  1. Place the softened butter and milk in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Using an electric hand mixer (or a stand mixer fitted with a whisk attachment), whip on medium speed for 5 minutes until light and airy, smooth and creamy. The mixture will become noticeably lighter in color. Halfway through the whipping process, stop to scrape down the sides of the bowl with a rubber spatula.
  3. Check the texture of the whipped butter. It should be similar to whipped cream. If needed, continue whipping to achieve the desired consistency. But avoid over-whipping as it can lead to a more solid texture.
  4. Add a pinch of salt, and whip for 1 to 2 minutes to incorporate. Taste as you go to ensure the mixture reaches your preferred level of saltiness.
  5. If serving immediately, transfer the whipped butter to a ramekin. If storing for later, transfer it to a jar or an airtight container and store it in the fridge.

Notes

Can I use salted butter for this recipe? While you can use salted butter, it’s recommended to use unsalted butter to have better control over the saltiness. If you prefer salted whipped butter, add kosher salt (or sea salt) to taste during the whipping process.

How long does homemade whipped butter last? Stored in an airtight container and refrigerated, homemade whipped butter can last for 2-3 weeks.
