Meet Denay

Hello! I’m Denay DeGuzman. Welcome to my online cookbook “Confetti and Bliss”, your go-to recipe destination for tasty everyday meals and joyful celebrations. I have a passion for cooking, and three decades of culinary expertise as a home cook. I’m thrilled to be your guide in the kitchen.

I invite you to browse through my recipe index where you’ll discover a treasure trove of easy recipes for every occasion. Like these fluffy buttermilk pancakes that are perfect for weekday mornings or Sunday brunch. And this easy, delicious lemon bundt cake.

Each recipe I share has been carefully developed, tested and approved by local flavor testers, as well as visitors to this site from around the world. I share expert tips from hands-on experience, as well as techniques that I’ve learned from other culinary experts.

When traveling, I book cooking classes to learn more about the area and continue my culinary education. Some of my favorites have been at the New Orleans School of Cooking, Sur La Table, Napoli’s Culinary Academy, MasterClass, small family-owned restaurants in Puerto Vallarta, and My Mexican Kitchen in Bucerias, Mexico.

I believe sharing a meal is much more than just eating. It’s about celebrating life and creating memorable moments. I invite you to grab your apron and join me in the kitchen for a burst of flavor, creativity, and a sprinkle of confetti!

My 2-Country Lifestyle

As a California native, I spend the spring and summer in the USA. But when the weather turns cold, my husband and I unfold our snowbird wings and fly south to Banderas Bay, Mexico. I prefer living where it’s sunny and warm. But I’m constantly flying back and forth between the two countries, because it’s important to maintain a good life balance and spend quality time with family and friends.

The Puerto Vallarta area is so amazing. It’s one of Mexico’s top culinary destinations. I’m so inspired by the colors, flavors, fresh ingredients, open-air markets and cooking styles.

Between our condos, I love this kitchen most – because this one faces the beach and pools. I can cook, bake, and recipe create with a view. And during the winter months, the sunlight in this space is magical. It’s ideal for food photography in natural light.

I make a point of baking treats to share with friends and neighbors, the HOA committee, and the restaurant staff downstairs. Some of their favorites are these lemon blueberry muffins, these Amish whoopie pies, and my famous Hershey’s dark chocolate brownies.

In Mexico there are plenty of taste testers available at any time to provide honest feedback about the new recipes I create. Their input is invaluable – it makes all my recipes better.

Many of my taste testers also offer new ideas and requests for future recipes on Confetti and Bliss. Some will make a family recipe they love and bring their dish over to share with me – along with the ingredients and instructions. These recipe testers are from different countries. They’re Americans, Canadians, Mexican nationals, and Europeans. So I get a good mix of opinions!

Life at this coastal location is a bit like living in a college complex. Many are early retirees with plenty of time to relax and do fun things. People walk down the halls in shorts and flip flops with a nice bottle of wine and a glass in their hands. They head over to visit other neighbors, or to join a group of friends gathering downstairs at the beach. It’s so enjoyable to recipe create in this relaxed environment.
