🛒 Ingredients
- Tomato Juice: It’s the base of any Bloody Mary. Make sure to use a good-quality one. I prefer the original V8.
- Vodka: The most common type of alcohol for Bloody Marys. But feel free to use whichever alcohol you have on hand, like tequila. Or you can leave it out for a virgin cocktail.
- Lemon Juice (freshly-squeezed): Adds freshness and acidity to the Bloody Mary.
- Prepared Horseradish: Adds a great spiciness and bite to the drink.
- Hot Sauce: Adds a bit more warmth and spice. I like Tabasco, but feel free to use what you have on hand.
- Worcestershire Sauce: Adds a funky, umami flavor to the Bloody Mary. It enhances the earthy flavor of the tomato juice.
- Old Bay Seasoning: It has a spicy, smoky, floral flavor that pairs really well with tomato and lemon. It has such a delicious taste.
- Celery Salt: Adds a subtle vegetable flavor to enhance the earthy flavor of the tomato.
- Smoked Paprika: Adds a warm, smoky flavor to the drink.
- Sea Salt: Enhances the flavor of the other ingredients.
- Ground Black Pepper: Adds a rustic taste and aroma with a bit of heat.
👨🏻🍳 Expert Tips
For rimming the cocktail glasses: If desired, you can use Tajin or Margarita salt instead of the mix of sea salt and Old Bay seasoning.
How to batch this drink for a crowd: Multiple the ingredients based on the number of servings you need. Mix it in a large container with a lid – this will allow for easy serving at parties or gatherings. Let the Bloody Mary mix sit for a few hours or overnight (in a sealed container) in the fridge. This will allow the flavors to meld for a more harmonious cocktail.
📖 Recipe Steps
Recipe Prep: Rim the glass for your Bloody Mary mix. Fill a small shallow bowl with water, and another bowl with 1 tablespoon coarse salt plus 1/2 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning. Dip the rim of the glass in the water, then in the Old Bay salt. Add ice to the glass, then set it aside.
- In a mason jar or cocktail, add tomato juice.
- Pour vodka into jar.
- Add in the prepared horseradish.
- Add Old Bay seasoning, celery salt, and smoked paprika.
- Drizzle in the hot sauce.
- Pour in the lemon juice
- Add the Worcestershire sauce.
- Add ice to the jar. Attach the lid of the jar. Shake the Bloody Mary mix until well chilled and fully combined – about 30 seconds.
- Strain the Bloody Mary mix into the prepared glass, and garnish as desired. I like to include a celery stalk, lemon wheel, a cornichon, and a few green olives. But feel free to use whatever tangy and briny garnishes you have on hand.
